 Shaken Baby Syndrome

Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is a form of child abuse that is still often poorly understood by many professionals involved with abused children. It is a deliberately inflicted assault on a child that results in serious injury or death.

The identification, investigation and prevention of this form of abuse requires a multidisciplinary response from those involved in the fields of medicine, child protection, law enforcement, education, as well as members of the public.

Using up to date animated graphics, videos and information from personal involvement with these investigations, I provide a one day training course to a wide range of professionals who may deal with SBS cases. This training covers the medical aspects of this form of abuse, as well as the roles of the police, doctors, nurses, child protection workers and prosecutors in Shaken Baby Syndrome investigations.

I also provide training to child care workers, educators and other members of the community on some of the underlying triggers for this type of abuse and outline prevention strategies for at risk parents and other caregivers.
